When I want a trusted pair of hands to work with me on a key campaign I call Jeremy Porter. I do it often. He knows how to stay the course and develop a narrative that cuts through. When others are tempted to drift off message, Jeremy is able to bring people in, remind them of the strategy and provide counsel to help people perform in their role.

I am a New York-based freelance communications strategist. I work independently, for agencies, and with a strong network of collaborators.
I work with leading public affairs agencies, global organizations, and political candidates. I have 14 years experience working with clients helping them shift debates, connect with their audience and win campaigns.
I have worked with clients in the U.S., Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
How am I different?
Most communications consultants offer a full suite of services like an agency. I don’t.
I focus on creating communications strategy, narrative, and key messages. This means I am focused on creating communication that draws on persuasion theory, is subjected to intense scrutiny, and has been tested.
I strive to make sure communication is clear, concise, and consistent.
But it’s not enough to deliver a strategy, a story, and messaging. So I train teams in how to carry out the strategy and I give counsel throughout the life of the strategy.
- Do you have a new campaign?
- Have you been working on an issue for years and made no headway?
- Up against big money?
- Don’t like the way the media report on your issue?
- Does the media ignore it completely?
These are communications challenges and must be addressed through strategy, narrative, and messaging. This is what I’m best at.
I am able to provide access to a wide network of researchers, public affairs pros, and writers who I work with regularly.
I have written extensively on strategic communications. To get an idea for my approach have a look at these three articles:
